Westfield 9/11 remembrance ceremony

(WWLP) – To remember the many lives that were lost on 9/11, the city of Westfield held their annual remembrance ceremony.

Ann Murphy Fraro from Westfield lost her brother Brian on that day. He was on the 104th floor of the world trade center when the first plane struck.

“We are assuming that he perished immediately his remains were never found. It is extremely important to us to have a remembrance like this every year to keep the memory of all those souls who perished on that day alive,” said Murphy Fraro.

According to U.S officials, on September 11th of 2001, terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people and injured more than 6,000 others. Some of those people were from Westfield.

John Velis, the State Senator of Massachusetts said this moment in U.S. history will never be forgotten.

“It’s important to remember that that day in particular the number of lives the trajectory it changed, the number of people myself included, deployed to Afghanistan with the Army. Iraq that just set off a whole chain of events but today is that day that we stop pause and remember the families,” said Velis.

This dedication ceremony was just one of many events happening in Westfield for 9/11.
