(10/7/2025- WWLP) The West Springfield community received $300,000 in funding on Tuesday morning, aimed at supporting local schools and infrastructure.
The funds, awarded through the Millionaires Tax budget and the Fair Share Supplemental Budget, will be used for capital improvements, transportation, and educational programming costs in West Springfield Public Schools.
“In Massachusetts, we’re looking at potentially a $2 billion shortfall in the commonwealth because of the cuts from the federal government, so the money that we’re able to get, this is vital right now,” said Senator John Velis.
Senator John Velis and Representative Michael Finn joined Mayor Will Reichelt and Superintendent of West Springfield Public Schools Stefania Raschilla to present the funding outside Coburn Elementary School.
Superintendent Raschilla outlined that the funds will be allocated in three parts: $100,000 for student transportation, another $100,000 for supplies, and the remainder for infrastructure support.
With this funding, West Springfield aims to address pressing needs in its schools, ensuring better facilities and resources for students and educators.
