(WWLP) – State Sen. John Velis returned home following a six-month deployment with the Massachusetts National Guard.
The deployment began in late October, which took him to the Southwestern border of the United States. During Sen. Velis’ activation, his office remained fully operational and continued to assist with constituent inquiries and Senate matters. Sen. Velis plans to return to his legislative duties, including participation in Senate budget debates later this month.
State Sen. Velis expressed his sentiments upon returning to his family and community. “It’s an incredible feeling to be back with my family and our community.” He added that he is “eager to get back to work ahead of the Senate’s budget debates later this month to secure vital funding for our district and to fight for the issues at the top of mind of so many residents.”
Velis also conveyed gratitude to his legislative staff. “I am grateful to my entire Senate team, who have gone above and beyond over the past few months serving our district and ensuring that I was kept up to date on all matters locally and up on Beacon Hill.”
The Senator is unable to share further details regarding the deployment and is unavailable for media comment at this time. Sen. Velis is expected to participate in the Senate’s budget debates later in May.
