(22 News WWLP) Three veterans organizations across western Massachusetts received a total of $50,000 in funding presented by State Senator John Velis.
The largest portion of the funding, totaling $40,000, is designated for the Chicopee American Legion Post. The post plans to use the money for kitchen renovations and other building improvements.
Two other regional veterans organizations will each receive $5,000. That funding is intended to expand regional programming and veteran outreach efforts across western Massachusetts.
State Sen. Velis, a Democrat representing Hampden and Hampshire, highlighted the importance of supporting local veterans organizations and maintaining their facilities. “So many of our veterans… come together to be together,” Velis said. He added that the funding will help ensure these posts continue their mission of fostering community among area veterans.
The financial support was secured by Velis through multiple state budget earmarks. The legislative earmarks were approved by both the Massachusetts House and Senate before being signed into law.
