Easthampton High School to receive $40,000 for security

(22 News WWLP) – Senator John C. Velis announced $40,000 in funding for Easthampton High School security upgrades on Monday.

Senator Velis of Second Hampden and Hampshire, announced the funding for Easthampton High School during an open press event in Easthampton Monday morning. The funding was included in the Massachusetts FY’23 budget that was passed by the Senate and House and was signed into law by the Governor.

The budget will upgrade the school’s security system to promote school safety. Senator Velis was joined by State Representative Daniel Carrey, Easthampton Mayor Nicole LaChapelle, Easthampton Schools Superintendent Allison LeClair, and members of the community.

“Over time, we know that equipment improves. Particularly in the area of technology. We also know there are nuances to the way technology is used over time. So, we need to keep up with the times” said Allison LeClair.

LeClair added that they are in the process of bringing on a new director of technology for the district, so it will be some time before specific decisions on how to use the funding will be made. They hope to start getting quotes for the cost of the project later this fall.
